Telegram Renames Wallet App to Walt as Gram Wallet Rolls Out
The rebrand leaves user accounts, balances and wallet addresses unchanged, while Gram Wallet adds a separate non-custodial option inside Telegram.
Telegram renamed its custodial Wallet app Walt on Sept. 28, 2026, while rolling out Gram Wallet as a separate non-custodial service for simpler crypto use inside the messaging platform.
The change does not affect existing users’ accounts, balances, assets, transaction histories or wallet addresses. Users do not need to migrate, and Walt remains available through Telegram’s @walt handle. The former @wallet handle also continues to work, although Walt is no longer displayed in Telegram’s settings.
Walt now houses Telegram’s broader custodial financial products. Its lineup includes a custodial wallet, a peer-to-peer market, perpetual futures, tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds, Earn programs and a DeFi Account.
Gram Wallet is being introduced separately as a non-custodial wallet. Telegram founder Pavel Durov said the service was initially available to a select group of users.
“Gram Wallet in Telegram is ready and is now accessible to a select group of users,” Durov said. “We'll be gradually rolling it out to our billion+ users over the next couple of weeks.”
Durov also said validators had approved the smart contract powering Gram Wallet and described the product as part of Telegram’s effort to make non-custodial wallets easier to use. In a non-custodial wallet, users generally control their own assets and wallet access rather than relying on a service to hold them.
Gram (GRAM) is the new name for Toncoin (TON), while TON remains the name of the underlying blockchain. The token renaming does not require users to move their assets or change their wallet addresses.
The Wallet bot supports USDT, Gold, Bitcoin (BTC) and GRAM and says it is trusted by 150 million users. Telegram’s product split places its existing trading and financial tools under Walt while introducing Gram Wallet as a separate entry point for non-custodial crypto use.
Telegram’s rollout of Gram Wallet will continue gradually over the next couple of weeks, expanding access beyond the initial group of users.
