Fiserv has launched Roughrider Coin as the first live use of its digital-asset platform, bringing a dollar-backed token for North Dakota bank payments onto Solana.

More than 90 banks and credit unions can access the token through Commercial Center, Fiserv’s commercial online banking system. That reach does not establish how many institutions have started using it or how much money has moved.

VersaBank issues Roughrider Coin and handles minting, burning, custody and reserve management. Fireblocks provides tokenization and digital-asset infrastructure, while transactions run on Solana.

Roughrider is a fully reserved “token deposit” and is also described as a stablecoin. It is permissioned for financial institutions, with voluntary use and no retail access. The Bank of North Dakota oversees the program; participating institutions initiate, approve and settle transactions through Fiserv’s platform.

The project was announced in October 2025, with availability for North Dakota banks and credit unions anticipated in 2026. The launch gives Solana a role in a live interbank payment product. Transaction totals and the number of institutions actively using it have not been disclosed.

“The launch of our digital asset platform is an important milestone for Fiserv and the financial institutions we serve,” said Sunil Sachdev, Fiserv’s head of embedded finance and digital assets.

Bank of North Dakota Chief Executive Don Morgan said the coin gives partner community banks and credit unions another tool for moving money across the state’s interbank network.
