U.S. Sends Two Patriot Batteries to Guard Gulf Energy Facilities
One battery is assigned to an oil facility in Saudi Arabia and another to a natural gas site in Qatar. The deployments come as Washington weighs renewed combat operations against Iran.

The United States has sent two additional Patriot missile batteries to protect energy facilities in Saudi Arabia and Qatar as Washington weighs whether to resume major combat operations against Iran, bringing renewed attention to Gulf energy security.
One battery was assigned to an oil facility in Saudi Arabia and the other to a natural gas facility in Qatar. The facilities and deployment dates were not identified. U.S. Central Command declined to comment, and no public U.S. announcement confirmed the deployments.
The reported deployments follow disruptions to energy infrastructure in both countries. QatarEnergy halted liquefied natural gas and related production on March 2, 2026, after attacks on facilities in Ras Laffan and Mesaieed. Ras Laffan was targeted again on March 18, 2026.
Saudi Arabia shut its East-West pipeline on Sept. 10, 2026, as a precaution after a drone attack. The pipeline connects the kingdom’s eastern oil region with the Red Sea coast.
The reported battery assignments do not establish that either facility faces an imminent attack or that oil and gas flows have changed. No further deployment details were provided.
