Metaplanet finished the third quarter with 44,000 Bitcoin (BTC), ranking as the world’s second-largest publicly listed Bitcoin treasury company as of Sept. 30 after adding 1,000 BTC net during the quarter.

The company sold Bitcoin worth more than the outstanding principal on its bonds, borrowings and other interest-bearing debt, then bought back more BTC than it had sold. The total amounts sold and repurchased were not specified.

Metaplanet also introduced a net interest income strategy intended to generate recurring revenue and reduce its capital costs. The company’s earlier Bitcoin accumulation provides context for the increase: it held 1,018.17 BTC in October 2024, when it was the second-largest corporate Bitcoin holder in Asia.
