Ethena Expands USDe-Linked Returns With $1 Billion Lending Facility
The secured facility adds institutional credit exposure to USDe-backed assets as Ethena broadens its collateral and yield strategy.

Ethena is adding institutional lending to the activities tied to USDe-backed assets through a $1 billion secured facility with FalconX, expanding the range of risks connected to the token’s returns.
The facility, announced Aug. 19, 2026, uses assets backing USDe to fund overcollateralized institutional credit through a special-purpose vehicle. Collateral will be held by qualified custodians, while FalconX will serve as originator, servicer and collateral manager.
“Secured institutional lending is one of the largest and most durable sources of return in finance, and on-chain capital has barely touched it,” Ethena founder Guy Young said.
The arrangement adds institutional credit exposure to the risks already associated with USDe’s structure, including collateral custody, counterparty arrangements and risk controls.
USDe uses a delta-neutral structure that pairs crypto-related backing assets with short derivative positions to reduce exposure to price movements. Returns can include staking income and derivatives funding payments, making exchanges, custodians and counterparties important parts of the system.
Ethena has also expanded the types of collateral used in the strategy. On Sept. 25, the protocol added Binance’s tokenized U.S. stocks as collateral and began hedging the related exposure through Binance stock perpetual contracts.
Ethena says it completed a SOC 2 Type II audit with zero exceptions. Its website also identifies a partnership with Binance covering USDe use across the exchange’s platform and derivatives products.
The protocol faces a separate regulatory issue in Germany. Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) instructed Ethena GmbH to wind down its business on June 25, 2025. USDe holders were given until Aug. 6, 2025, to assert redemption claims.
The facility follows Ethena’s earlier changes to USDe incentives and collateral strategy, adding institutional lending to the activities connected with the assets backing the token.
