Samsung Electronics forecast third-quarter operating profit of 107.4 trillion won, or about $80.2 billion, as demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence infrastructure drives a record result.

The preliminary figure, disclosed Thursday, marks the company’s first quarterly operating profit above 100 trillion won. Samsung is the world’s largest memory-chip maker, placing its results at the center of investor scrutiny over the strength of AI-related technology demand.

The company posted 89.5 trillion won in operating profit and 171.5 trillion won in revenue during the second quarter, when its memory business led performance. Samsung has also expanded its AI-related investments and partnerships, including a September agreement with French startup Mistral AI to deploy its models across semiconductor operations.

Samsung is expected to release complete third-quarter results, including performance by business division, later this month.
