Cointelegraph’s organic traffic fell about 80% after Google imposed a manual penalty that removed the crypto media site from search results, intensifying pressure on its business.

Monthly visits exceeded 12 million in December 2024 before falling to slightly more than 700,000 as of Sept. 1. The decline came as subdued crypto prices and limited market volatility reduced audience attention across crypto news.

Cointelegraph, founded in 2013, has more than 200 employees. Its business also includes a Middle East and North Africa franchise that was acquired by Luna Media Corporation in July 2022 to support regional and global expansion.

The site previously experienced a front-end vulnerability in June, adding to operational challenges as the company works through the traffic decline.
