Broadcom is exploring more than $50 billion in debt financing to help OpenAI purchase custom artificial-intelligence chips developed through their partnership, underscoring the scale of capital moving into AI infrastructure.

The preliminary discussions include Apollo and Blackstone among potential lenders. The financing would support OpenAI’s procurement of chips built with Broadcom as the companies expand their custom accelerator program.

OpenAI and Broadcom announced a strategic partnership in October 2025 to design, develop and deploy 10 gigawatts of custom AI accelerators. OpenAI is responsible for the accelerator designs, while Broadcom is handling the wider systems and networking deployment.

The companies expect the first racks to come online in the second half of 2026 and plan to complete the deployment by the end of 2029. OpenAI also released its first jointly developed custom inference chip, Jalapeno, in August.
