Pi Network is exploring rewards and ecosystem applications for Open Standard’s OUSD stablecoin, an early-stage plan that has not yet produced a launch date or confirmed implementation.

The network announced the exploratory plans Oct. 8, saying OUSD could be considered for rewards programs for Pioneers and broader utility across the Pi ecosystem.

“In its partnership with OUSD, Pi will explore rewards programs for Pioneers and broader utility across the Pi ecosystem,” Pi Network said.

Key technical and commercial details remain undecided, including deployment on Pi, a contract address, liquidity goals and the structure of any rewards program. Its current work is focused on principles for possible future stablecoin integration, with compliance identified as an important consideration.

Pi Network said its native cryptocurrency will retain the primary role in the network. Stablecoins would serve a complementary function by providing more predictable pricing for commerce, payments, settlement and other activities affected by PI’s volatility.

OUSD is a U.S.-dollar-pegged stablecoin that supports minting and burning at a 1:1 conversion rate with the U.S. dollar. It launched Sept. 30, with planned support for Base, Ethereum, Solana and Tempo.

The stablecoin is issued by Bridge, a Stripe company, with reserves held at BlackRock, Lead Bank and BNY. It remains unclear whether Pi would host OUSD natively or provide access through another network or bridging mechanism.

“The current focus is on establishing the principles that should guide future integration,” Pi Network said.

Any future rollout would therefore depend on the network’s integration principles, compliance work and decisions on how the stablecoin would function within the Pi ecosystem.
