Meanwhile Raises $37.5 Million as Demand Grows for Bitcoin Life Insurance
The Bermuda-based insurer has raised more than $180 million as it expands products for wealthy clients outside the United States.

Meanwhile raised $37.5 million from existing investors as demand grows for Bitcoin (BTC) life insurance among wealthy families outside the United States.
Bain Capital Crypto led the round. Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital also participated. Sam Altman is among Meanwhile’s backers.
The funding brings Meanwhile’s total raised to more than $180 million. The company said demand for its Bitcoin life insurance policies has surged in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
“Wealthy families around the world already hold Bitcoin. What they haven’t had is a regulated way to pass it on,” Meanwhile co-founder and CEO Zac Townsend said. “Brokers came to us because their clients kept asking. This round lets us keep up with them.”
Meanwhile launched BTC Life 1-Pay in early 2026 for high-net-worth clients outside the United States. The single-premium whole life policy requires payment in Bitcoin and provides a guaranteed death benefit in Bitcoin.
The policy’s value increases in Bitcoin. After the first year, owners can borrow up to 90% of the policy’s value without a repayment schedule or margin calls. Individuals, trusts and companies can own the policies for succession and estate planning.
BTC Life 1-Pay is Meanwhile’s second product line after BTC 10-Pay, which is designed for U.S. taxpayers.
Meanwhile has signed 15 brokers serving wealthy families, including in Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE and Switzerland. Its partners include Lioner, an insurance, trust and family office group, and Apeiron Group, a marketplace for high-net-worth life insurance.
“We’re reaching a turning point where more high-net-worth clients are asking not just how to hold Bitcoin and digital assets, but how to plan around them and ultimately transfer that wealth to the next generation,” Apeiron Group CEO Justin Man said.
Meanwhile said its net long-term underwriting income has surpassed last year’s total and is on track to more than double in 2026.
Meanwhile Insurance Bitcoin (Bermuda) Limited holds the first Class IILT license issued by the Bermuda Monetary Authority. The company received the license in July 2024 after spending two years in the regulator’s sandbox.
Its balance sheet, reserves and audited financial statements are denominated in Bitcoin, while policyholder Bitcoin is held with regulated institutional custodians.
