Entergy Mississippi warned Amazon Web Services that data centers in the Jackson area could face disconnections during periods of peak electricity demand, highlighting grid-capacity challenges as data-center demand grows.

AWS modified its power systems to allow automatic switching to backup generation. The adjustment reflects the operational challenges utilities and data-center operators face when electricity demand approaches available grid capacity.

Similar grid concerns could prompt regulatory discussions in Texas and Louisiana. The developments add to broader questions about how rapidly expanding data-center infrastructure can be supported while maintaining reliable electricity service.

Amazon has separately committed more than $1 billion over five years to communities near its U.S. data centers through its Built Together program. The initiative supports education, job training, energy affordability and water preservation.
