Alpaca plans to launch prime brokerage services in the first quarter of 2027, expanding its institutional offering with financing, custody and securities lending for crypto and traditional markets.

The planned service will target hedge funds and other large institutions. It would also connect tokenized stocks with their underlying assets.

Alpaca currently custodies more than $3.5 billion in underlying U.S. stocks and supports tokenized products from more than 10 issuers, including Binance, Coinbase and Crypto.com. Its custody assets have grown about eightfold over the past year.

The company provides API brokerage services for stocks, options and cryptocurrencies. Its tokenized-stock business provides custody for the underlying stocks of tokenized products.

The planned prime brokerage launch would build on Alpaca’s role in the tokenized-stock market. The company previously expanded its tokenized-stock infrastructure through its Instant Tokenization Network, which supports the conversion of brokerage-held shares into tokenized assets.
