Botswana is nearing an agreement to raise its stake in De Beers to about 25% from 15%, as Global Diamond Consortium pursues the acquisition of the diamond producer.

The potential increase would give Botswana a larger ownership position in De Beers. Global Diamond Consortium is the preferred bidder for the company.

The agreement has not been completed.
