Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, praised Micron’s approach to future memory prices and criticized unnamed suppliers, as manufacturers shift capacity toward AI-related products and memory supply tightens.

Musk wrote on X that Micron had taken a reasonable approach to future pricing and was making a choice that could support long-term customer loyalty. He did not identify the suppliers he criticized.

Musk posted at 5:52 p.m. ET Oct. 13 (9:52 p.m. UTC Oct. 13) in reply to a post summarizing a bullish view of memory and storage. His post did not disclose any procurement discussions with Micron.

Memory makers are directing more wafer and cleanroom capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which is used in AI data centers. The shift can constrain conventional DRAM supply, while NAND storage is also tightening.

Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra has said he expects supply and demand for memory and storage to be tighter in 2027 and 2028 than in 2026. More than 75% of Micron’s expected 2027 output has been committed, and most discussions with new customers have moved to 2028.

Long-term customer agreements and deposits can help buyers secure memory supply and pricing during tight markets. Musk’s post linked reasonable pricing with long-term customer loyalty but did not name any other memory company.
