Rakuten Wallet launched a mobile app that puts spot and margin crypto trading in one place in Japan, adding passkey sign-in and Rakuten points purchases ahead of the two current apps’ planned end of service.

The app debuted Oct. 14. It brings together trading functions that had been offered through separate apps and adds passkey authentication, a password-free sign-in method. Customers can also use Rakuten points to buy crypto.

Rakuten Wallet plans to end service on its two existing apps in early 2027. The company has operated a crypto trading business in Japan since 2019 and obtained Type I Financial Instruments Business qualification in 2020.
