Stripe and Plasma are developing stablecoin-linked cards that let people and businesses spend balances in currencies they already hold, aiming to cut unnecessary conversions and foreign-exchange costs.

Plasma will serve as a design partner. The planned infrastructure will support the U.S. dollar, Brazilian real, euro, Mexican peso and Colombian peso. Planned stablecoin options include Open USD (OUSD) and other stablecoins that qualify under the GENIUS Act.

A customer with a euro balance could pay directly in euros without converting the funds to dollars first. Businesses could issue cards in currencies that match their spending needs. Stripe and Plasma are working toward letting cardholders spend from multiple account balances, with the appropriate currency selected automatically at purchase.

Stripe's stablecoin card service currently covers more than 30 countries. The company plans to expand coverage to more than 100 countries in 2027.
