Siemens Mobility has secured an order worth more than €2 billion for battery-powered regional trains in Lower Saxony, including decades of maintenance and new service facilities.

The order covers 113 three-car Mireo Plus B trains. Lower Saxony Transport Authority will receive 83, while Greater Braunschweig Regional Association will receive 30.

The trains can recharge while traveling under overhead power lines and run on batteries along sections without electrification. The trains account for about €1.1 billion of the contract value.

The broader package includes 30 years of maintenance and two new service centers in Lower Saxony. It also includes an option for up to 132 additional rail vehicles. Passenger service is scheduled to begin at the end of 2031.
