SBI Holdings and Startale have joined Open Standard to explore a proof of concept linking yen-denominated JPYSC with U.S. dollar stablecoin Open USD (OUSD), an effort aimed at improving international liquidity for yen-denominated assets.

SBI and Startale are considering a proof of concept to test interoperability between JPYSC and OUSD. SBI and Startale plan to deepen collaboration with Open Standard’s global partner network within applicable regulatory frameworks.

Open Standard is an alliance of more than 140 companies that promotes OUSD adoption. Its members include Visa, Stripe, Mastercard, BlackRock and Coinbase.

Separately, SBI DigiTrust, NICE Information & Telecommunication and DSRV are studying stablecoin payments and remittances between Japan and South Korea. The study is scheduled to finish by the end of 2026; its scope includes connecting blockchain infrastructure with existing payment systems. The Japan-South Korea stablecoin payments study is a separate effort.
