Saylor Says Possible MSCI Removal of MSTR Would Have Limited Impact
The Strategy founder criticized MSCI’s treatment of Bitcoin and argued that Strategy should be treated as an operating financial company.

In an interview, Strategy founder Michael Saylor said a possible removal of the company’s stock from MSCI indexes would have limited impact, while criticizing the index provider’s treatment of Bitcoin.
MSCI’s new index rules could lead to the exclusion of Strategy’s stock, which trades as MSTR, from its indexes. Saylor said the amount of money tracking MSCI indexes is relatively small, making a possible exclusion less important to Strategy.
Saylor criticized MSCI’s treatment of Bitcoin (BTC), contrasting it with oil, natural gas, land and machinery, which he said count as capital. He described that distinction as a value judgment and bias against digital assets, and urged MSCI to reconsider.
He also defended Strategy’s status as an operating company. Saylor compared it with banks and insurers, saying those firms sell credit and insurance policies while Strategy uses Bitcoin to support digital credit products. He argued that this makes Strategy an operating financial company that should be treated like other financial firms.
Saylor said dropping the proposal would benefit the digital asset industry and argued that investors and the United States would not accept MSCI’s position.
