Mastercard has introduced Stablecoin Security, a service that checks stablecoin payments for fraud, scams and sanctions risk before funds move onchain, with its initial rollout focused on North America.

Announced Oct. 19 at Money20/20 USA, the service combines payment details with blockchain activity. Through an application programming interface, it examines where funds came from, whether a restricted party is involved and whether a transfer shows signs of a scam. It then produces a risk score before the payment is completed.

Borderless.xyz and Keyrails are the first partners. Borderless.xyz connects institutions with licensed stablecoin providers in more than 113 countries and 72 currencies. Keyrails supports high-value cross-border trade payments, particularly in emerging markets.

An analysis of 593 million stablecoin transfer events across 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025 found that nearly 60% of the transfer events occurred within complex transactions.

Mastercard expects the service to be commercially available worldwide in 2027.
