Mastercard introduced a stablecoin screening service that gives banks and payment providers a risk score before a transfer reaches a blockchain, extending its fraud controls to digital asset payments.

Called Stablecoin Security, the product combines information from conventional payments with blockchain analysis. It checks for signs of fraud, scams, sanctions exposure and other financial crime risks. Banks can use the score to decide whether a payment needs closer review before completion.

Mastercard unveiled the service Oct. 19 at Money20/20 USA. Borderless.xyz and Keyrails are its first partners. Stablecoin payments can pass through multiple wallets and blockchains, making risk harder to assess across a transfer. The service aims to give institutions a view of that risk before funds move onchain.

The launch follows Mastercard’s acquisition of BVNK in August. Mastercard has also announced a Global Money Platform intended to bring stablecoin payments to businesses.

Mastercard expects Stablecoin Security to be commercially available worldwide in 2027.
