About 230 German Savings Banks Signal Interest in Crypto Trading
The phased rollout starts with five assets in the Sparkasse app. Stablecoins and meme coins are excluded for now.

About 230 banks in Germany’s Sparkassen savings-bank network have expressed interest in adding cryptocurrency trading to their mobile apps, extending a phased rollout that began Oct. 19 for retail customers.
The initial selection is Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), XRP, Solana (SOL) and Polygon (POL). Stablecoins and meme coins are outside the offering for now. Customers at participating banks can buy and sell the five assets through the existing Sparkasse app.
DekaBank, the network’s securities provider, handles trade execution, with custody arranged in cooperation with Stuttgart Stock Exchange. Availability depends on whether a customer’s Sparkasse has joined the rollout.
Interest from about 230 institutions does not mean all have launched the service. The German Savings Banks and Giro Association expects 30 to 40 more banks to connect each month. Most interested banks are expected to connect before the first half of 2027.
