Micron’s Taoyuan Union Plans Oct. 22 Solidarity Strike
A union at Micron’s Taichung operation is scheduled for a second mediation session that day over profit sharing.

A Micron union in Taoyuan, Taiwan, plans a solidarity strike on Oct. 22 as the chipmaker’s Taichung union prepares for mediation, raising concerns about DRAM production.
The Taiwan Micron union has secured the legal right to strike, with nearly 90% of its members backing a walkout. The Taichung union is seeking a specific plan to share profits with employees. Its second mediation session with Micron is scheduled for Oct. 22.
The Taoyuan action is intended to support the Taichung union. The two groups plan to review any company proposal together, while Taichung union leaders have tied their next move to the outcome of mediation. If Taichung accepts Micron’s terms, the Taoyuan union will decide how to respond based on those terms.
Micron’s Taoyuan facility primarily produces dynamic random access memory, or DRAM. If a stoppage affects equipment maintenance or process monitoring, production yields and stability could suffer.
Samsung Electronics held 39.4% of second-quarter DRAM revenue, followed by SK hynix at 24.9% and Micron at 23.3%. The next decision point is the Taichung mediation session on Oct. 22.
