Nvidia put nearly $1 billion into Germany during the past year, CEO Jensen Huang said Oct. 20, and described the company as one of the country’s larger venture investors.

Huang made the remarks during a fireside chat at the Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin. He highlighted Germany’s strengths in science and mathematics, as well as its entrepreneurial activity.

About half of the companies founded in Germany over the past two years are artificial intelligence (AI) businesses, Huang estimated. He urged other investors to pursue opportunities in the sector quickly, suggesting Nvidia might otherwise reach promising companies first.

Nvidia has backed AI companies elsewhere, including a 2023 investment in Hugging Face. Hugging Face was valued at $4.5 billion at the time.
