Waymo Targets First Riders in the Region of Madrid in 2027
Jaguar I-PACE vehicles will first be driven manually across the region, followed by validation with trained specialists.

Alphabet unit Waymo aims to welcome its first riders in the Region of Madrid in 2027, extending its autonomous ride-hailing plans to Spain for the first time.
The planned service area includes Madrid city and other municipalities in the region. Waymo will initially drive Jaguar I-PACE vehicles manually across the area. Validation with trained specialists will follow before fully autonomous operations begin.
The manual drives are a preparation step, separate from passenger service. Waymo has set a 2027 target for its first riders but has not specified a launch date.
Waymo is also pursuing a 2028 Toronto target, with manual mapping and validation drives planned there. In the Region of Madrid, the next step is to begin manual driving before validation and the targeted first passenger rides.
