The reimbursement limit varies by account tier. OKX board member Andrew Cuomo framed the launch as a sign of confidence in the exchange’s security.

U.S. customers now have access to OKX Shield, a new account protection program from cryptocurrency exchange OKX that offers eligible users up to $500,000 in reimbursement after an account takeover.

The benefit is tiered, so the $500,000 figure is the highest limit available under the program, rather than a standard payment for every affected account. OKX positions Shield as a security measure for customer accounts, with reimbursement available when an account is hacked. The account tier determines the cap that applies to an eligible user’s case.

Andrew Cuomo, an OKX board member and former New York governor, described the launch as a sign of confidence in the exchange’s security system. “This is the level of trust we have in our own system,” Cuomo said. He said the program puts that confidence into action.

The U.S. launch brings a customer reimbursement offer to the exchange’s American users, with protection capped at $500,000 and set according to account tier.
