New York Securities Firms Could Top $90 Billion in 2026 Profits
Underwriting revenue rose 68% in the first half, and bonuses for 2026 are expected in early 2027.

New York securities firms had a record first half in 2026, and full-year profits could top $90 billion if that pace holds, raising bonus prospects. That would exceed the $65.1 billion record set in 2025.
Underwriting revenue climbed 68% in the first six months, while advisory and account-management revenue rose 16.4%. A revival in investment banking and strong trading conditions helped lift earnings.
The industry employed 207,400 people in 2025 and is projected to add about 5,300 jobs in 2026. Securities-related business and individual income taxes brought New York state at least $26.3 billion in fiscal 2025-26, nearly 29% more than a year earlier.
Relatively stable markets could help turn those profits into record year-end compensation. Inflation, international instability and technological changes tied to artificial intelligence could weaken industry profits and tax revenue. Bonuses for 2026 are expected to be paid in early 2027.
