A market-circulating merger timeline ties SpaceX and Tesla to an agreement targeted for the first half of 2027 and completion before President Donald Trump’s term ends. The dates describe separate steps, with an agreement to come before the transaction closes.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk discussed the possibility during the company’s third-quarter earnings call on Oct. 21. He expressed support for the idea and pointed to possible connections involving artificial intelligence, Terafab chipmaking, robotics and Starlink connectivity. Musk also confirmed that the two companies had established independent special committees to examine the proposal.

Musk has said the merger would require support from holders of 50% of all Tesla shares. That is a separate approval condition from the timeline’s agreement and closing targets.

The timeline names no specific closing date and does not make the merger a completed transaction. The next stated milestone is an agreement targeted for the first half of 2027.
