Huntington's Third-Quarter Common Income Falls to $680 Million
Total revenue slipped to $2.791 billion, while diluted EPS held at 33 cents and net interest margin rose four basis points.

Huntington Bancshares Incorporated reported lower third-quarter income and revenue as average loan balances contracted, while its net interest margin widened and diluted earnings per share held steady.
Income applicable to common shareholders was $680 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, down from $686 million in the quarter ended June 30. Total revenue declined to $2.791 billion from $2.837 billion over the same comparison, a decrease of $46 million.
Noninterest income fell 8% to $722 million, reflecting lower capital markets fees and unfavorable equity valuation adjustments. Net interest income rose 1% to $2.069 billion. The fully taxable-equivalent net interest margin increased four basis points to 3.25%, supported by higher yields on investment securities and modestly lower funding costs.
Average loans and leases decreased 0.4% to $188.449 billion. Lower commercial real estate and consumer balances drove the decline, partly offset by growth in commercial and industrial loans. Average deposits rose $413 million to $223.816 billion.
Diluted earnings per share remained at 33 cents. Adjusted EPS, a non-GAAP measure that excludes items Huntington classifies as notable, fell to 38 cents from 39 cents in the prior quarter.
Huntington had revised its 2026 outlook on Sept. 16. It lowered its projected net interest income growth to about 35%, from a previous range of 39% to 43%, and its implied revenue growth forecast to about 34%, from about 37%. The bank also trimmed its average loan growth outlook to about 36%, from a range of 36% to 37%, and average deposit growth to about 33%, from 33% to 34%.
The outlook update cited lower-than-expected loan volume, commercial real estate and residential loan paydowns, lower auto production and pressure from deposit costs amid sustained high short-term rates. The Oct. 22 earnings release included no new numerical guidance for 2026.
“Huntington delivered a solid quarter, reflecting disciplined execution and continued business momentum across the franchise,” Chairman and CEO Steve Steinour said.
Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Huntington is a regional bank holding company with $288 billion in assets and about 1,400 branches across 21 states.
