Uber Expands ChatGPT Work Access to About 30,000 Employees
The expansion follows a 1,000-person pilot across finance, operations and product; about 80% of early users worked outside engineering.

Uber is expanding ChatGPT Work to about 30,000 employees worldwide, turning a 1,000-person pilot into a company-wide rollout of OpenAI’s workplace AI agent.
Uber and OpenAI announced the expansion Thursday, Oct. 22. Introduced in July, ChatGPT Work is an enterprise-focused agent that companies can deploy for different workflows.
The pilot, conducted earlier this year, included employees in finance, operations and product. About 80% of the early users worked outside engineering, said Sumanth Sukumar, Uber’s vice president of engineering.
Sukumar said employees used the tool for tasks including “analyzing complex data from our operations to identify trends.” He also cited adapting training materials for different markets and languages, and building personalized dashboards for daily work.
Uber has not settled on one specific use for the expanded rollout. Earlier this year, the company paired 30 AI engineers with teams for two weeks to automate key parts of their jobs. Sukumar said the effort showed the potential of combining technical expertise with employees’ knowledge of their work.
The company plans to assess how employees use ChatGPT Work, which workflows they develop and whether and how the tool improves their work. Uber will use those findings to guide future AI deployments across the business. It has not disclosed the rollout’s cost.
