XRG is considering an investment in Eni’s Libyan oil and gas operations.

The discussions are preliminary, and an agreement is not assured. No stake size, price or timetable has been disclosed.

Neither company has confirmed the discussions, and both declined to discuss speculation. The assets under consideration are unspecified, including whether a possible stake would involve Mellitah Oil & Gas BV, which operates Eni’s Libyan business.

Eni and Libya’s National Oil Corporation each own 50% of Mellitah. Libya accounted for about 162,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in Eni’s equity production in 2025. Eni has operated in the country since 1959.

XRG aims to build a top-five integrated gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) business, targeting annual capacity of 20 million to 25 million metric tons by 2035.
