Old Republic International Corporation CEO Craig Smiddy said net annual premium for the warranty business could reach $600 million to $700 million within a few years, but he did not specify the target’s exact scope.

“Looking at it on a net basis, $600 million, $700 million in the next few years isn’t out of the question, and even higher,” Smiddy said during Old Republic’s Oct. 22 earnings call. He clarified that he meant annual premium, not new premium written each year, and presented the range as a possibility rather than formal guidance.

The call discussed Old Republic’s combined Home and Auto Warranty category. From January through September 2026, net written premiums in the combined category totaled $545.9 million, compared with $350.3 million in the same period of 2025. For the quarter ended Sept. 30, the category recorded $204.9 million, compared with $142.4 million a year earlier.

Smiddy said auto warranty was driving growth. Old Republic reports home and auto warranty premiums together and does not provide separate totals for either business.

Old Republic has expanded its auto warranty presence through partnerships with administrators. Its acquisition of ECM Insurance Group closed effective July 1, 2026, and ECM’s current-period results were accretive to third-quarter operating earnings. Smiddy said ECM would continue contributing to premiums and earnings.
