Pepenardo has turned six copies of The 2036 Issue into custom artworks, pairing each altered magazine with two one-of-one trading cards. Collectors acquired every set soon after release, extending the knight imagery across marked-up magazines and paired cards.

Pepenardo drew on each cover with a Sharpie and signed it. Each copy also has a gold-ink signature inside, on a spread featuring his painting THE DREAMER. Across the covers, the imagery includes the Sleeping Knights, the masked rider from FAKEGENESIS, Dorian Nakamoto and Pepe the Frog.

Pepenardo said he noticed blank space on the covers and thought it invited a drawing. The cards sold quickly. “I was shocked at how quickly they went,” he said.

The 2036 Issue is the magazine’s finance issue; 2036 is not its publication year. The release carries characters from Pepenardo’s earlier paintings and trading cards into another collectible format.

His paintings THE DREAMER (RED KNIGHT) and THE DREAMLESS (GREEN KNIGHT) appeared in the MEMETIKRON exhibition at the Bitcoin Museum & Art Gallery in Nashville from April 1-20, 2026, and at Bitcoin 2026 in Las Vegas from April 27-29, 2026. Each painting recorded a final bid of 0.32698802 Bitcoin (BTC). The green knight’s payment status was pending.

Mark Mason, head of media for the publisher of The 2036 Issue, said, “We see each physical issue as a time capsule.” Mason said the publisher does not reprint past issues, a policy he cited as one factor in their collectible value.

The price of the six new sets was not disclosed.
