Capital Research Raises Its Metaplanet Voting Stake to 11.11%
Its reported holding rose by 17,845,264 shares from Sept. 8 to Oct. 16 as a buyback reduced Metaplanet’s voting-rights base.

Capital Research and Management Company’s disclosed Metaplanet stake reached 11.11% of voting rights on Oct. 16, crossing the company’s 10% major-shareholder threshold as a buyback reduced the voting-rights base.
Capital Research reported 143,301,084 Metaplanet shares, up 17,845,264 from 125,455,820 shares on Sept. 8. Its reported voting-rights share rose from 9.32% over the same period. Metaplanet’s ranking table placed Capital Research first on both dates, so the increase did not change the top shareholder ranking.
Metaplanet repurchased 73,981,400 ordinary shares on Oct. 14 for ¥19,309,145,400, or ¥261 per share. The company calculated its voting-rights base at 12,894,494 after the repurchase, down from 13,634,308 as of Sept. 30. The smaller base increased the percentage represented by a given holding, while Capital Research’s reported share count also grew. The repurchase was part of a bond sale and share-repurchase plan.
Capital Research’s filing gave a separate securities-holding ratio of 10.90%, based on 149,203,584 share-equivalent securities. That total included 5,902,500 nonvoting Class B preferred shares and 2,762,600 American depositary receipts, counted one-for-one with ordinary shares. Metaplanet’s 11.11% figure measures voting rights and excludes the nonvoting preferred shares.
Metaplanet said it had not independently verified the beneficial share count or voting rights. Capital Research listed its holding purpose as pure investment for foreign investment funds that are clients and reported no material proposal activity.
Metaplanet held 44,000 Bitcoin (BTC) as of Sept. 30. The company said the Oct. 14 repurchase was intended to “enhance capital efficiency and BTC holdings per share” and mitigate short-term supply-and-demand effects from its 2031 convertible-bond issuance. The bonds are scheduled to be issued Thursday, Oct. 29.
