Oil India Well Test Peaks at 200,000 Standard Cubic Meters of Gas per Day

The well also produced about 170 barrels of condensate per day. Oil India gave no reserve estimate or commercial production timeline.

Oil India announced that its Godavari-1 appraisal well off India reached a peak test flow of 200,000 standard cubic meters per day, indicating gas in a previously unappraised offshore formation.

Godavari-1 targets the Matsyapuri formation in the KG-DSF/GSKW/2018 block, where Oil India is the sole operator. The well encountered hydrocarbons at depths of 2,024 to 2,027 meters. Testing began Oct. 16, with gas flow at about 100,000 standard cubic meters per day before reaching its maximum during continuous testing.

Condensate output was about 170 barrels daily. The condensate had an API gravity of 55.8 at 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and wellhead pressure was 1,815 pounds per square inch. Water was also produced, but no flow rate was given.

The test figures do not quantify how much gas can be recovered. Oil India provided no reserve estimate or commercial production timeline. Preparations were underway to test a higher zone in the well.

Separately, India’s Cabinet approved an offshore exploration scheme in July with an outlay of ₹84,084 crore through fiscal 2030-31. The plan includes 60 deepwater exploration wells. Godavari-1 is a shallow-water well, and Oil India’s announcement does not connect it to that deepwater program.
