RedotPay has acquired BtcBox, a Japan-licensed crypto asset exchange, and halted new registrations in Japan as it pursues local operations through the licensed business.

The company also stopped distributing its app through Japan’s App Store and Google Play. RedotPay acknowledged that it lacked the relevant Japanese license and that its existing services for Japanese residents did not comply with local rules. Its current Japanese business will be restricted in stages before it is shut down.

Founded in 2014, BtcBox received a license to operate a crypto asset exchange business in Japan in September 2017. BtcBox temporarily suspended services in January 2026 after customer information was leaked. It gradually resumed operations in early August 2026 after strengthening security and passkey authentication.
