RedotPay Acquires Japan’s BTCBOX Exchange for Compliant Local Services
RedotPay says it will end its current Japan-facing services in stages while using BTCBOX to provide offerings that meet local rules.

RedotPay has acquired Japanese crypto exchange BTCBOX, giving the payments company a locally registered platform as it shifts its Japan business toward services that meet Japanese rules.
The deal establishes BTCBOX as RedotPay’s channel for services that comply with local requirements. RedotPay said it does not hold a license to operate a crypto asset exchange in Japan and that its current services for Japanese residents do not meet those requirements.
RedotPay has paused new sign-ups in Japan and removed its app from the country’s Apple and Google app stores. The company plans to restrict its existing services in stages before ending them, with future compliant services offered through BTCBOX.
RedotPay will provide BTCBOX with funding and technical support. Founded in 2014, BTCBOX received registration as a crypto asset exchange operator in September 2017.
BTCBOX suspended all services after a customer information leak in January 2026 and began restoring them in phases on Aug. 3.
