The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has launched a tokenization service aimed at bringing up to $30 trillion in real-world assets on-chain, extending blockchain-based services into U.S. securities markets.

The initial scope covers 25 securities, including U.S. Treasuries, equities and exchange-traded funds. The networks named for the service, Canton and Hyperledger Besu, operate in permissioned blockchain environments.

The service is designed to create on-chain representations of securities while retaining existing investor protections. It also aims to support faster settlement and collateral transfers at any time of day.

The $30 trillion figure is the broader pool of assets the service targets; the initial scope is 25 securities. Tokenization means representing an asset digitally on a blockchain. DTCC facilitates clearing and settlement for U.S. securities transactions, connecting that market infrastructure role with the new on-chain service.
