Summit Therapeutics said Oct. 25 that its investigational drug ivonescimab, combined with chemotherapy, lowered the risk of death by 25% versus durvalumab plus chemotherapy in advanced biliary tract cancer.

Median overall survival was 14.9 months for patients receiving ivonescimab and chemotherapy, compared with 12.1 months for those receiving durvalumab and chemotherapy. The late-stage trial was conducted in China.

Serious adverse events occurred in 43.4% of patients in the ivonescimab group and 43.7% in the durvalumab group. Blood abnormalities were common, as were generally mild or moderate effects associated with VEGF inhibition.
