Musk Says SpaceX Completed $40 Billion in GPU Debt Financing
He cited SpaceX’s investment-grade rating and Starlink and launch revenue, while warning that credit has nearly dried up for AI firms without other substantial income.

Elon Musk said SpaceX has completed $40 billion in debt financing for GPU purchases, while warning that tighter credit could trigger exits and consolidation among more than 200 AI cloud firms.
On X, Musk said SpaceX has an investment-grade credit rating and revenue from Starlink and its launch business. He cited those financial strengths alongside the $40 billion borrowing for graphics processing units (GPUs).
He said debt markets had nearly stopped financing companies without substantial revenue beyond AI data centers over the past several weeks. That warning points to a divide between companies with existing revenue streams and newer firms built around AI computing demand.
Musk said more than 200 neocloud companies — newer cloud providers that sell computing capacity — could face widespread exits and consolidation, leaving only a few survivors. This was his forecast for the sector.
His account contrasts SpaceX’s satellite internet and launch revenue with the limited non-AI revenue he described among AI data center companies.
