SpaceX Secures $40 Billion in GPU Financing as AI Credit Tightens

Musk credited Starlink and launch revenue with supporting the borrowing, which is mainly callable debt. He also forecast consolidation among more than 200 neocloud providers.

SpaceX has secured $40 billion in GPU financing, Elon Musk said, as the deal highlights how access to credit is narrowing for companies reliant on AI data centers.

Musk said the funds will buy GPUs for artificial-intelligence systems. Most of the financing is callable debt, allowing SpaceX to repay it early.

He credited revenue from Starlink internet service and rocket launches with helping SpaceX obtain the financing. Those businesses generate income outside AI data centers, a distinction Musk said matters as borrowing becomes harder for AI infrastructure firms.

Musk said debt markets have nearly stopped providing money in recent weeks to companies without substantial revenue separate from AI data centers. He also forecast a shakeout among more than 200 neoclouds, newer providers that rent AI computing capacity, predicting that only a few will remain.

The financing shows the capital scale of AI computing buildouts: assembling large GPU clusters can require tens of billions of dollars.
