SEMI expects spending on equipment for 300mm front-end fabs to keep growing through 2029, with an 18% increase projected for that year after a sharp expansion in 2026.

The third-quarter 2026 outlook puts spending at $149 billion in 2026, up 31% year over year. It projects growth of 16% in 2027, 12% in 2028 and 18% in 2029.

SEMI also projects 20 new 300mm fabs or lines, excluding pure research and development fabs, will begin construction worldwide in 2026. It forecasts 18 such construction starts in 2027.

“Semiconductor demand is increasingly translating into physical manufacturing expansion across the global industry,” said Ajit Manocha, SEMI’s president and CEO.
