Turo plans to identify Tesla rentals equipped with Full Self-Driving (Supervised), giving customers a way to find vehicles with the paid driver-assistance feature on its car-sharing marketplace.

The company is working with Tesla to verify whether listed cars have the feature enabled through Tesla’s application programming interface, or API. Eligible Turo hosts will receive a free one-month trial of the software.

The arrangement gives renters another way to try a feature that Tesla says about 1.7 million customers worldwide have paid for. Tesla has built and sold more than 10 million vehicles. In North America, more than 75% of customers who took delivery of a Tesla during the third quarter paid for an FSD subscription.

Tesla vehicles already rank among Turo’s most popular offerings. The Model 3 is the platform’s third-most popular vehicle this year, while the Model Y is fourth.

Turo CEO Andre Haddad said the integration would give more travelers a chance to experience driver-assistance technology. Some 55% of Americans are interested in driverless technology for travel, rising to 71% among Gen Z respondents.

Full Self-Driving remains a supervised system. Turo plans to warn renters that they must monitor the software and be ready to take over at any moment. Renters will also be offered a Tesla-made tutorial.
