Anthropic disclosed that AMD may invest up to $5 billion in the artificial intelligence company if stated conditions are met, pairing a possible capital commitment with a hardware supply agreement.

The potential investment is conditional and has not been completed. The investment remains conditional, and AMD has not transferred the funds. The stated $5 billion is a maximum, rather than an amount Anthropic has already received.

Anthropic and AMD signed a hardware supply framework agreement in July. The deal involves Helios systems equipped with AMD’s MI450 series GPUs. The July agreement is a framework for hardware supply.

The disclosure covers two different stages: the supply framework is signed, while the investment remains conditional. Anthropic’s filing does not describe the possible investment as completed funding. The filing places the conditional funding disclosure alongside the signed equipment framework.
