a16z Managing Partner Chris Dixon said Oct. 23 that the firm’s expanded investment remit reflects blurring boundaries among crypto, fintech, Wall Street and mainstream technology. He pointed to stablecoins as a standard tool for fintech companies and to rapid growth in asset tokenization.

Dixon said the team will explore frontier areas underserved by existing investment efforts. It will continue looking for opportunities created by the indirect effects of technological advances.

On Oct. 22, a16z renamed a16z Crypto as a16z Frontier and broadened the types of technology businesses it would consider. Crypto investments remain part of the expanded investment mandate.
