Whirlpool Corporation lowered its 2026 sales and earnings targets Monday after third-quarter net sales fell 8.8% year over year and the company recorded a $249 million loss available to common shareholders.

Net sales for the quarter were $3.677 billion, compared with $4.033 billion a year earlier. Organic net sales, a company-reported non-GAAP measure, were $3.643 billion, down 5.4%. Reported year-over-year net sales were lower in 10 of the past 12 quarters through the third quarter of 2026, but those comparisons span portfolio changes and are not all like-for-like.

The third-quarter loss under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) was $3.80 per diluted share. Ongoing earnings before interest and taxes were $97 million, while the company’s ongoing loss was $0.21 per diluted share.

Whirlpool now expects 2026 net sales of about $14.5 billion, down from its previous target of about $15 billion. Its GAAP earnings outlook shifted from a profit of $2.25 to $2.75 per diluted share to a loss of about $4.95. The company also moved its ongoing diluted earnings outlook from a profit of $2.50 to $3.00 per share to a loss of about $1.30.

North American major-appliance net sales fell 8.3% to $2.495 billion. Whirlpool cited soft industry demand and announced a 7% price increase that will take effect in the fourth quarter.

“Our structural cost take out and pricing realization drove consecutive margin progress through Q3. While the pace of recovery is slower than expected, these actions are setting a clear path for further improvements in 2027,” Chairman and CEO Marc Bitzer said.

Whirlpool had kept its full-year outlook in place with its August second-quarter results. The company’s call to discuss the third-quarter results is scheduled for 8 a.m. ET (12:00 UTC) Tuesday.
