Auburn National Bancorporation, Inc. posted net earnings of $2.523 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, up from $2.227 million a year earlier. Basic and diluted earnings per share were both $0.72, compared with $0.64 in the 2025 quarter.

Total revenue was $8.988 million, up from $8.401 million. GAAP net interest income increased to $8.014 million from $7.572 million. On a tax-equivalent basis, net interest income rose to $8.121 million from $7.641 million, while net interest margin widened 15 basis points to 3.36% from 3.21%.

Auburn National attributed the margin increase to higher yields on earning assets, a more favorable asset mix and lower deposit costs. The company’s average loans were $579.6 million, down from $582.3 million in the second quarter but above $556.2 million a year earlier. It attributed the quarterly decline primarily to loan payoffs.

Noninterest income increased to $974,000 from $829,000. Auburn National attributed the rise mainly to bank-owned life insurance income from nontaxable death benefits received in the second and third quarters of 2026.

Total assets were about $1.017 billion at Sept. 30, compared with about $1.086 billion at June 30. Auburn National attributed the decrease primarily to changes in reciprocal customer deposits retained on its balance sheet. Those deposits fell to $29.6 million from $82.3 million over the same period.

“While loan balances declined during the quarter primarily due to payoffs, our asset quality, capital, and liquidity remain strong,” said David A. Hedges, Auburn National’s president and CEO. AuburnBank, based in Auburn, Alabama, operates in East Alabama and is a subsidiary of Auburn National.
