Intel Signs Deal to Buy Classiq and Expand Quantum Computing Effort

The agreement would combine Classiq’s algorithm-design platform with Intel’s silicon spin-qubit work. The companies expect to close in the first half of 2027.

Intel has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Israeli quantum software company Classiq, adding an algorithm-design platform to its effort to pair quantum software with silicon spin-qubit research.

Intel announced the agreement Monday, Oct. 26, and did not disclose financial terms. Intel shares closed at $93.74 at 4 p.m. ET (20:00 UTC) Tuesday, Oct. 27, up $3.27, or 3.61%, from the previous session.

Classiq’s automated quantum algorithm synthesis platform is designed to work with different types of quantum hardware. Intel plans to continue supporting Classiq’s existing integrations with other platforms.

“Joining forces with Classiq transforms Intel’s Quantum Computing Group into a full-stack quantum computing business,” Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said.

Intel has invested in quantum computing since 2015 and is developing silicon spin-qubit technology. The company aims to add quantum processing units to a portfolio that includes CPUs, GPUs and application-specific integrated circuits. The announcement did not give a timeline for a commercial quantum product.

Intel expects to complete the transaction during the first six months of 2027, pending regulatory approval and other standard closing conditions. Intel and Classiq will operate independently until closing.
