SK hynix's Nasdaq-listed American depositary shares (SKHY) rose 8.14% to $157.19 in premarket trading at 4:13 a.m. ET (0813 UTC) Wednesday, Oct. 28, after the chipmaker posted a 632% year-over-year jump in preliminary third-quarter operating profit. The shares had closed at $145.36 on Oct. 27.

For July-September, operating profit was 83.3338 trillion won, compared with 11.3834 trillion won a year earlier. Revenue climbed 328% to 104.6155 trillion won, while operating margin reached 80%. SK hynix said both revenue and operating profit set quarterly records, with sales exceeding 100 trillion won for the first time.

The company linked the results to higher prices for key products and stronger demand for AI memory. It expects memory demand to outstrip supply through 2030, citing advanced-process challenges and the time required to build production facilities. SK hynix expects HBM4 to become a mainstream product in the fourth quarter of 2026.

For fiscal 2026, the company plans about 100 trillion won in shareholder returns, including at least 30 trillion won in dividends and at least 60 trillion won in share repurchases and cancellations.
