The U.S. goods trade deficit widened by $2.8 billion in September to $134.9 billion, as imports increased more in dollar terms than exports. The report was released Oct. 28 at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 UTC).

The seasonally adjusted deficit grew from $132.1 billion in August. Goods imports rose $8.1 billion, or 2.4%, to $344.1 billion. Exports increased $5.3 billion, or 2.6%, to $209.2 billion. The figures are not adjusted for price changes.

Capital goods imports rose 7.5% from August to $157.4 billion. Imports of industrial supplies fell 6% to $58.9 billion.

The advance estimate covers goods, and September’s current-month figures reflect nearly complete coverage. The U.S. Census Bureau scheduled its complete September goods-and-services trade report for Nov. 4 at 8:30 a.m. ET (13:30 UTC).
